Skincare Simplified: No, You Don't Need a 12-Step Routine

Skincare Simplified: No, You Don't Need a 12-Step Routine

We’ve all been on TikTok or Instagram and seen a beauty influencer open their cabinet revealing 20+ skincare products that all look the same. After the third or fourth serum you may start to wonder, do I need that many products too? We’re happy to report that the infamous 12-step skincare routine is debunked, and a simple routine with just a few key products is more than enough to keep your skin fresh and fabulous without breaking the bank.

Before continuing it’s important to add that everyone’s body is different, so what your skin needs may be different. With this said, here are 5 products you should always keep in your bathroom offering you a simplified yet nourishing routine.

Cleanser: This may be obvious because most people have some sort of face wash, but not all cleansers are the same. Finding a cleanser that’s tailored to your skin type is the first step to setting the foundation for the rest of your routine. We have a wide variety of cleansing gels made for different textures and oil levels. Read our blog post about identifying your skin type here.

Exfoliant: There was definitely a time when harsh exfoliating face washes were extremely popular. Though many have realized using a product like this everyday is more damaging than anything, you can still incorporate exfoliates a few times a week to keep your face smooth with freshness. There are two main types of exfoliants to know about: Physical Exfoliants: These typically involve granules, particles, or textured materials physically scrubbing away dead skin cells from the surface. Try our Crystal Clarity Exfoliant for a gentle yet effective skin reset. Chemical Exfoliants: These use acids or enzymes to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed more easily. Chemical exfoliants penetrate deeper into the skin and can be gentler on the skin's surface. Want to give it a go?Try our Alpha Hydroxy Skin Renewal Serum.

Moisturizer: Again, this one may seem obvious too, but finding a moisturizer that’s right for your skin type is just as important as having one in the first place. Knowing what you’re looking for is a great start; does your skin run oily? Dry? We offer a diverse set of moisturizing products designed to target the level of hydration you need.

Serum/Treatment: Serums are a little way to back a big punch. Thought not necessary for your skin’s health, they can be used to target different areas you’re looking to improve. Many people use vitamin C serums for brightening, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and retinol for anti-aging. Remember every skin is different and incorporating new products should be done slowly at first to minimize any unforeseen reactions or dryness.

Sunscreen: As you wrap up your daily skincare routine, don't forget the SPF. Many daily moisturizers now come with built-in sunscreen, like our SPF 44 Tinted Moisturizer, offering a convenient way to safeguard your skin. Alternatively, applying a traditional sunscreen over your other products works just as effectively in providing protection.

Next time you’re lost in a TikTok blackhole remember that social media can be exaggerated and is often inaccurate. Simplicity is queen. You are a queen. As long as you have these five products I almost always guarantee your skin will be getting what it needs on a daily basis.
