According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, as of 2009, the European Union currently bans 1,328 chemicals from its cosmetics. In contrast, as of 2008, US FDA has banned or restricted only 30 chemicals
If you’ haven’t thought about the products you’re using yet, I encourage you to start making a list and then doing some deep diving into ingredients. We use A LOT of things on and in our bodies.
On average, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that women use 12 personal care products a day, exposing themselves to 168 chemical ingredients.
As a beauty blogger when I let this sink in I was terrified, I was using way more products than a typical woman and I did a serious overhaul on my bathroom and vanity.
Body and skin care was first, then came makeup. But it’s up to you to make the decision on when and where to start.
For us, like I mentioned in the video, it’s all about reducing the overall quality of products and air in our home to reduce our toxic load because there will always be toxins we have no control over.
Parabens are most widely used as a preservative in cosmetic products and they can mess with our hormones, are talked about with cancer (specifically breast cancer), and can irritate your skin.
